Wu Tang Clan with Run the Jewels at Madison Square Garden gig poster

18x24, 8 colors (+ metallic gold) on steel grey French paper, edition of 250. $50

I can’t tell you how many hours I put into this art. This poster was such a labor of love. I’ve been listening to WU Tang since I was 13, easily my favorite group of all time. I had every album memorized, I would buy movie soundtracks just because one member had one song on it. I even had that fucking limp biscuit album solely because method man was on one track. Then in 98 I found Company Flow, EL-Ps first group, and have been a super fan ever since. I was at the very first Run the Jewels show in Minneapolis at the varsity theater when they were still performing solo sets. RTJ has since become one of my favorite hip hop groups of all time.

I was lucky enough to work with RTJ last year and during that time is when I first heard whispers that they were planning a tour with Wu Tang and I lost my goddamn mind! I started doing some sketches immediately.

I originally pitched this to them as the full tour poster. RTJ loved it, but Wu already had their own tour artwork already done. So RTJ had me chop out the lower right area to use as their personal tour poster and shirt. I asked if I could turn the full art into a gigposter for the MSG show, they said shouldn’t be a problem.

Much later we found out it would indeed be a problem, MSG won’t let the poster be for sale at the actual show as WTC now has their own gig poster for the MSG show. A poster WITHOUT RTJ on it btw. Which I feel sort of robs the fans who are fans of both groups.

So this poster exists in a weird grey area between official and unofficial. Because of that it will only be for sale on my website.

I put the hours into this piece because I’m a fan, and I consider it a gift to other fans. There are so many little Easter eggs hidden that if you’re a fan too, you’ll appreciate.

I am bummed this poster won’t be for sale at the actual venue. But at least I still get to go to the show! And hopefully the fans of both groups will still come across this post, and this also gives a chance for fans who aren’t going to the show to grab one.
